Kuala Lumpur - Once Upon A Time

Special posting in-conjunction of Federal Territory Day 2012...

Kuala Lumpur is the capital and the second largest city in Malaysia by population. Making up an area of 243 km2 (94 sq mi), has a population of 1.4 million as of 2010. Greater Kuala Lumpur, also known as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.2 million. It is the fastest growing metropolitan region in the country, in terms of population and economy.

Kuala Lumpur has its origins in the 1850s, when the Malay Chief of Klang, Raja Abdullah, hired some Chinese labourers to open new and larger tin mines for tin prospectors. The miners landed at the confluence of Sungai Gombak and Sungai Klang to open mines at Ampang, Pudu and Batu.

During the early times, Kuala Lumpur had many problems, including the Selangor Civil War; it was also plagued by diseases and constant fires and floods. Around the 1870s, the third Chinese Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur, Yap Ah Loy, emerged as leader, and became responsible for the survival and subsequent systematic growth of this town. He began to develop Kuala Lumpur from a small, obscure settlement into a booming mining town. In 1880, the state capital of Selangor was moved from Klang to the more strategically advantageous Kuala Lumpur.

Chubby To Hot Girls Transformation

Thin women can become models if they want to and if they don't want to, can look like one and win complements. What's even better, looking thin gives an impression that you work-out (even if you have not been) and live a healthy lifestyle. Nevertheless, most men love thin women and women, themselves like being thin.

This collection of before and after photos proves that determination and hard work can turn an overweight girl into a thin babe. See which girls made the biggest transformations.

Be it fat or thin, women are always beautiful the way they are.

Zero Star Hotel

If you are get used to three and four stars hotels, you would definitely not like this Chinese hotel that seems to have no stars judging by these photos. Maybe it's not THAT bad, but it's still very uncomfortable.

World Youngest Record Holder

World's Youngest record holders for a variety of titles. From shocking to fascinating.

 World's Youngest Granny (25yr)

A 25-year-old Romanian housewife could be getting a grand old honor: She is believed to be the world's youngest grandmother. The British tabloid The Sun reports that Rifca Stanescu had her first child, a daughter named Maria, at the age of 12. Although she urged the girl not to follow her example, Maria got in the family way when she was only 11 and gave birth to a son, Ion.

Stanescu was only 23 when she became a grandmother. Ion's now 2, and Stanescu has mixed feelings about being a grandmother at such a young age. "I am happy to be a grandmother but wished more for Maria" she said.

World's Youngest Yoga Teacher (6yr)

At just six, Shruti Pandey is the youngest yoga trainer in the world. The bendy youngster has been teaching adults at an ashram, in northern India, for the last two years. Her trainer, Hari Chetan, 67, set up the ashram 35 years ago and as soon as little Shruti became one of his students, as a tiny four-year old, he spotted her talents.

Now she starts her classes at 5.30 am every morning, at Brahmanand Saraswati Dham, in the Jhunsi town, dressed in white leggings and a red t-shirt surrounded by 30 eager pupils ranging from businessmen, teachers, housewives to pensioners. Shruti said, "It feels good when people follow my instructions, I feel like a real teacher."

Luxurious Dog House

This house is nice, cute, quite big and doesn't cost that much. However…

If you wish to live in this house, you still won't be able to. This is a doghouse. It was purchased by Tammy Kassis, a former insurance agent, from Los-Angeles for her three doggies, Chelsea, Darla and Coco Puff. They now live a luxurious life. Their house features vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, heating and air conditioning, hand-made curtains and pricey wallpaper. Every dog has its own bed. They can even listen to the radio!

If this house was for people, it wouldn't be so expensive to pay 20 thousand bucks for it. As for the doghouse, this price is way too much!

Football Hooliganism Infographic

Since the beginning of time, football (or soccer, according to some) and hooliganism have gone hand in hand.  No matter what league, country, or competition we are referring to, there is always a case of hooliganism that appears somewhere in their history.

While football hooliganism has been on the decline since its explosive heights in the 1980s, there are still many hooligan firms that are continuing to cause trouble at football games.

For those of you who would like to learn more about the history of these flare-throwing, face-punching, knife-waving, pitch-invading men that have somehow become synonymous with the beautiful game, the following infographic is a great place to start.

We take a look at which leagues and teams have the worst record of hooliganism.

19-Foot Tall LEGO Saturn V Rocket

LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught (The BrickMan) recently built what is likely the first and only minifig-scale Saturn V rocket, complete with gantry. At 5.76 meters (nearly 19 feet) tall and 120,000 bricks, it's certainly huge, but I love the details Ryan built into the rocket, including liquid fuel tanks and the NASA Astrovan.

It's the largest Lego build in Australia, and it took 250 hours to build, and it's the first ever recorded minifig-scale Saturn V rocket (with gantry).

As incredible this LEGO model is, I'm equally impressed that there is a LEGO Certified Professional that built LEGO model as a career. Cool...

Luxurious Cat Hotel

People do love their pets, and are willing to pay large amounts of money (as evidenced by the rates here) for their cats to be pampered and cared for while they're off on vacation, or business trips. The cats at this hotel can have a private suite, meals server 'a la cat', and are pampered with a special eco-friendly kitty litter that removes odor in seconds. If you have several cats, they can be housed in the 'chalet' together.

So, if it allays your 'guilt' at leaving your pampered pussy alone while you have fun, then go for it! The more traditional method of having a friend or neighbor drop in and open a can of food each day still works for us that truly understand a cat's disdain for us, and serves to teach them to appreciate us more! They should be happy when we come home, not upset to leave the posh Cat House!

Why Celebrities Love Baby Tyler?

Tyler Sercombe, the baby in this post, has seen more celebrities in her first year alive than most people see in their entire lives.

This one-year-old cutie has attended 60 film premiers and been held, squeezed and pinched by 130 top celebrities, thanks to her mom Donna. Tyler has also proven indomitable in light of all the strangers, noise and flashing lights, as she has only cried once when she been hold by John Terry.

These wedding photos prove that what can go wrong will go wrong. The problem with most of them is that there is usually someone or something in the background that is unexpected. But, at least they are funny.

Liverpool vs Man United FA Cup Gallery

Dirk Kuyt's late winner dumped Man United out of the FA Cup as Liverpool won 2-1 at Anfield. With the score perfectly poised at 1-1 the Dutchman controlled Andy Carroll's flick on before expertly dispatching beyond David De Gea in the 87th minute to stun the Red Devils.

And after booking their place in the League Cup final in midweek, Kenny Dalglish will now be keen to try and lead Liverpool to Wembley for a second time this season.

Daniel Agger had headed Liverpool into a 21st minute lead from a corner, as De Gea, back in the side after a spell on the substitutes bench, was left looking on helplessly. But United, without talisman Wayne Rooney, fought back and were level before the break as Park Ji-sung’s low shot beat Pepe Reina in the 39th minute.

Both sides strived to find the winner in a close-fought second-half but neither could make the breakthrough before Kuyt sent Anfield into raptures with his last-gasp goal.

Beautiful Images Of Nuclear Power Plants

A collection of scary or beautiful pictures (depending on your point of view) of active nuclear power plants from around the world. Nuclear Power Plant usually recognized by it massive cooling tower. They are known as hyperbolic cooling towers.  It's just a matter expelling heat energy.

Natural draft wet cooling towers at many nuclear power plants and large fossil fuel fired power plants use large hyperbolic chimney-like structures that release the waste heat to the ambient atmosphere by the evaporation of water.

Super Fast Toy Cars

Those are some very fast toy cars.

This is a video of a modern slot car race, and let me tell you, it probably should've been shot with a high-speed camera. You can see two cars going by in the bottom portion of the screencap I took, and they just look like little blurs.

Dogs Singing Star Wars Imperial March

I do like Star Wars and dog or cat but I still don't know what popular German car manufacturer Volkswagen is going for in this new ad. It's no doubt related to last year's young toddler Darth Vader ad, but how? Also, is it just me or is a teaser for a Super Bowl ad just a little strange?

Whatever. This ad got cute dogs. I spot Chewbacca, Ewok, Princess Leia and many other Star Wars character. The barking of the puppies is rather melodious - it reminds me of some famous musical theme Imperial March. Is it?

These photographs were taken using Kodachrome film by the improbably and wonderfully named Chalmers Butterfield, probably in 1949.

It's not until you take a good close look at the people in these pictures that you see how different things were back then.
