Retro Photos Of 1960s Paris

Do you ever wondered what it was like to stroll through the streets of Paris in the 1960s? Charles W. Cushman collection of vintage photographs will transport you to that era. Gorgeous buildings and mid-century automobiles fill the pictures, while fashionable passersby don suits and tea-length dresses, oblivious to the lens that was immortalizing them.

Star Wars Imperial March Theme By Floppy Drives

My mind just exploded at the awesomeness of this.

Upon playing this video, the first thing that comes to mind is, wow, people really have a lot of time on their hands. But on second thought, it's pretty neat.

We're geeks too and proud of it. We're not going to knock your ability to recreate the Star Wars imperial march theme using good old floppy disk drives. In fact, doing it is kind of genius.

The Closet Of Nintendo Fanatic

Normal gamers are great, but what happens when one man goes too far?

On the outside Marcus and his girlfriend have a nice healthy relationship but can this closet Nintendo fan keep his true passions in secret? She is hot and all, but if she can't understand the need to rub a NES all over your naked body, then she's not the one. Sorry.

Truck Drifting

Pro racer and stunt driver, Mike Ryan, was invited to round 6 of the Formula Drift Championship to put on a drift demonstration in his famous Freightliner Cascadia Pikes Peak Edition race truck.

Ride along as Mike and Sam Hubinette get some last minute testing in the week before the event at Irwindale Speedway. Watch as Sam in his competition Dodge Challenger and Mike in his Big Rig do drift donuts around each other!

You'll also meet a very special kid named William Klopper who is battling cancer and goes for a ride in the big truck! Sam Hubinette was granting a wish to William's friend Patrick by inviting them out to the track for ride along.

The trip to Las Vegas was a success for Mike to claim the first public demonstration of a Semi Truck drifting at an official drift event. Mike Ryan proves yet again that SIZE DOES MATTERS

Kids Being Total Badass

Dude Snap His Arm While Lifting 800 Pounds

Just a classic case of not knowing your limits. Eight seconds into the clip this dude's forearm breaks and his spotters take about 5 seconds to lift the 800lb weight off his chest.

Why do the helper take so long to get the weight of his throat? The man is convulsing and screaming for his life and some of them just standing there, acting like it's no big thing. Maybe they don't like the weightlifter that much.

Medley Of Famous 26 Songs In 49 Years

20th century pop music is riddled with nonsensical lyrics that nevertheless helped drive songs to the top of the charts. The medley, sponsored by music production house Equal Sonics, offers a survey of some of the biggest babble-fueled classics starting with Doo Wah Diddy Diddy, made famous in 1964 by Manfred Mann, and spanning subsequent decades to include such historical high points as Billy Joel's Piano Man and Seal's Kiss from a Rose and low points as Hanson's MMMBop and Eiffel-65's Blue.

Created by video remix artist Joe Sabia, whose portfolio also includes work for Google, the clip features singer-songwriter Jane Lui, who's had some YouTube success of her own, and Juilliard-trained musicians Michael T. and Jonathan Batiste. Overall, it's incredibly fun.

There is nothing worse than dealing with computer problems at work, but what if they were real? Oh, the horror. How would you react if Windows really crashed? The metaphors we use for the world of computers are kind of weird actually.

Brushless Painting By Amy Shackleton

Twenty-five year old, Toronto-based artist Amy Shackleton paints these lusciously drippy paintings without use of a brush or fingers, instead she relies on good old gravity (and occasionally string as a guide) to move the paint slowly across the canvas in delicately controlled pours.

Amy Shackleton has exhibited paintings in New York, London, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. Shackleton's work was recently selected for purchase by the Colart Collection in Montreal. Shackleton received her BFA Honours Degree from York University. She paints full time from her new studio space in Toronto.

The video below captures the somewhat tedious yet brilliant process in detail, as a 30-hour painting session condensed into two minutes. Unbelievably amazing and beautiful. The video shown the artist work at 800x speed, creating a new urban landscape painting, "Terraced City."

World Map Of Zombie

Using a keyword search for zombies, the following map visualizes the absolute concentrations of references within the Google Maps database. The map reveals two important spatial patterns.

First, much of the world lacks any content mentioning zombies whatsoever. Second, and related, the highest concentrations of zombies in the Geoweb are located in the Anglophone world, especially in large cities.

The results either provide a rough proxy for the amount of English-language content indexed over our planet, or offer an early warning into the geographies of the impending zombie apocalypse.

The map also shown 2 or 3 dot in Malaysia, and I'm pretty sure the search is related to Zombie Kampung Pisang.

Carpet Weaving In Afghanistan

Most highly qualitative and beautiful carpets are nowadays made in Afghanistan. The increasing demand all over the world for Afghan carpets, rugs and other piled goods, as well as killims has stimulated a lively interest in this time-honored craft.  The production of Afghan woven good is extremely varied, and falls into two main classifications: namely the Turkoman and the Beloutch and the Beloutch-type.

Both type are produced by pastoral people of entirely different origin, yet who had the same needs and a constantly available source of wool.  Thus, many of their products were made to serve similar purposes, though each is quite distinct in technique of weave, in color and design.

Not least of the charms of the Afghan carpet is that it is among the few products left the world today that is still made entirely by hand.  Carpet production in Afghanistan is from beginning to end a cottage industry, and for the buyer, represents good value in terms of wear, beauty and adaptability to surroundings.  Another characteristic of Afghan carpets is that they are wholly of wool and all designs are rectilinear.

Today we'll see how the Afghanistan carpets are created.

The Mass Games Of North Korea

Mass games are regularly performed in North Korea, where they take place to celebrate national holidays such as the birthdays of rulers Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il. In recent years, they have been the main attraction of the Arirang Festival in Pyongyang.

Mass games or mass gymnastics are a form of performing arts or gymnastics in which large numbers of performers take part in a highly regimented performance that emphasizes group dynamics rather than individual prowess. The effect of displaying huge images is achieved by having a large number of performers, each dressed in a particular color or holding a sheet of colored cardboard above their head.

Photographer Sam Gellman recently went for a 4-day trip to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea where he was able to witness and photograph the Mass Games in Pyongyang.

The Mass Games are a meticulously regimented display of gymnastics and other performing arts by nearly 100,000 participants, heavily laden with messages of state-sponsored propaganda. Perhaps the most incredible sight is that of the colorful backdrops consisting of thousands of perfectly placed children who sequentially flip through pieces of paper, creating staggering pictures of flags, horses, and slogans. Ten drunk sports fans with a team name written on their chests this is not. Gellman says on one of the images:
This shot was taken at the Mass Games, a propaganda-filled 100,000 person choreographed performance of simultaneous dancing and gymnastics on the field of Pyongyang’s May Day stadium. The image in the background of the horse is made up of 20,000 “pixels” which are constantly being changed into new images, each pixel by a different Korean kid. Each time they turn the page to create a new giant picture, they cry out, mixing the shout with the noise of thousands of pages turned at the same moment.

Tattoos And Its Story

Humans have been marking their skin permanently for thousands of years. A tattoo can be a remembrance, a constant prayer, a warning, or simply an amazing work of art. The reasons behind them can be intensely personal, decorative, whimsical, or utilitarian. They can signify tribal allegiance, personal history, or nothing at all.

Collected below are recent images of skin art and a few glimpses into the owners of these tattoos and their reasons for modifying their own bodies

Super Rhino

A short film with everyone's favorite supporting hamster that can only be found on the Blu-Ray release of Bolt. Featuring the voice talent from the film, Super Rhino involves the comic relief from Bolt being turned into a superhero himself (or at least dreaming about it).

It looks (but doesn't quite sound) as amazing as the movie itself and features the same clever wit and smile-inducing action. Fun stuff.

Kids who loved Rhino in the movie will adore it.

Please Try This At Work

Check out this extremely cool and action-packed short film called Insane Office Escape.

The whole film is shot entirely in the from the first person perspective. The film was directed by Ilya Naishuller, and it follows a man who is trying to escape his office building  while being attacked some kind of crazy suited-up agents.

The video incredibly entertaining and impressive. You'll enjoy it so check it out below.

You're Grounded For The Rest Of The Week

Clinging on for dear life to the side of a vertical cliff, the tiny lion cub cries out pitifully for help. His mother arrives at the edge of the precipice with three other lionesses and a male. The females start to clamber down together but turn back daunted by the sheer drop.

Eventually one single factor determines which of them will risk her life to save the youngster, motherly love. The dramatic rescue, captured by wildlife photographer Jean-Francois Largot, was played out in Kenya's Masai Mara game reserve.
